Ch Ch Ch Changes!

Oh my does the yard look different. I have never seen it this way before. It is possible to see out to out to the street whereas before it was hidden by shrub and just a big mangy mess. The clearing started yesterday and continued today. We are hoping that they are able to finish the clearing and get the erosion and sediment controls up before the long holiday weekend. It will be hard to just have it sitting there all weekend, but I am beyond thrilled that we have finally begun! When Miked, the kids and I went walking about the site tonight we were amazed at how much larger it all seems now that the scrub is gone from the perimeter. The kids are fans of the dirt piles, but we have to keep a constant eye out for the broken bottles that have accumulated in the field over the past 40 years. I am still holding out some hope that we find some amazing long lost treasure in the dirt. Unfortunately, the infamous "Dangle Stone" has not turned up yet. There is one small area left to be cleared, but I am dubious. Today an old birdbath pedestal was found. Mom and I carried out two of the metal fence posts that were here when the horses were in the field. We laughed at the fact we were taking them, but they have memories, history, whispers of our ancestors.

Below are some of the pictures from the past 2 days. Our clearing guy was laughing at me today saying that we are going to have a reallllllly long scrap book. I can't keep from going out every few hours and documenting these changes though.

The baby digger enters the yard. First order of business--remove fence posts.

Clearing the first part of the brush for the construction entrance. View is from Lincoln.

The old posts from the split rail fence Pat built for Mary and Michael's wedding. We are hoping to reuse them in landscaping the new house.

Now the big digger gets involved. Scraping to create the construction entrance. View is from Lincoln again.

Construction entrance...check!

Thing 1 and Thing 2. This reminds me of the Snort in Are You My Mother? (sorry I haven't figured out how to underline in here yet!)

Corner of Lincoln at the end of day 1.

This is one of the big dead trees from the middle of the field.

Can you believe this? You can see through to the other side!

  1. The Dengle (no clue on spelling) stone is in the corner, near the hydrant. Almost sure.
