Greetings from the North Pole

Well....it's a blizzard outside.  Literally.  A blizzard.  More specifically this is our second blizzard in 5 days.  There is probably about 3 feet of snow on the ground and we don't expect much more today, but the winds are insane.  We are keeping fingers crossed for no power outages.

The workers were out yesterday in between the blizzards to work on the rake trim and fascia board and soffits.  I must commend them!  That work is still not finished, but there were 5 guys working on it and we are hoping they are back tomorrow or Friday to continue.   The HVAC guys were also in the house working on installing the duct work.

Here is a run down of stuff we have done since last time:
  • The house roof is half shingled.  They were up there working when the first blizzrd hit on Friday.  I love how they look!  Not like you could see them now because of all the snow, but take a look at the pics and you will see!
  • Miked and I spent an afternoon moving around all the scrap wood that was on the ground of the site.  We made piles of: firewood, pices with nails to remove, pieces that are nailed together and need to be separated, and long usable pieces.
  • The doors arrived, but are not in.  We are going to wait on putting them in until more of the house is finished.  We are going to have them install the steel basement door and a cheapy beater door for the mudroom so that we can lock the house, but the other doors we will wait until we can get around to priming them and protecting them because they are just wood.  But I do have pics of the front door which I love.
  • We had a sign made for Miked's company, OR Ventures, to put up in the site.  Hopefully this might lead to another project for him.  The awesome logo was done by his cousin Karly.  THANK YOU K!
  • Some of the rake trim, fascia boards, and soffits have been finished but there was mess up with some of the materials delivered and so there is a bit to fix up and finish there.  It looks awesome though.
  • The ramp was framed out.
  • The brick has been chosen for the chimney.  It is a standard red brick...apparently appropriate for the Craftsman period we are told by our architect.
  • The Rumford fireplace kit has been ordered so we can get going on that when it stops snowing someday.
  • The siding is on for delivery on Monday.  There will be shingle and Hardie plank siding.  Still no word on colors.
  • The porches are framed out and their roofs are as well.  I can't wait to start looking for a front porch swing!
  • Last Saturday after the first blizzard Miked and I went out back and installed some of the electric receptacle boxes.   Sunday Miked went back out solo and put in the ones in the kitchen that will be above the counters.
Here are some pics to show you the latest...

  1. It is looking so amazing! I love the picture of the front door and of the ramp being framed. I think some of the stuff I need a glossary to know what the heck the terms means! I am impressed! So what is the derivation of the name of MikeD's company? Does it stand for something? I'm sure it does. Hang in there with the snow. We are all going crazy. I will go to sleep and dream of spring and sitting next to your beautiful swing in the evening on the porch sipping beverages and listening to music. It will come!
